Minutes of the First Organizational Meeting of the proposed Grand River Unit of NAP

January 10, 2007

Members present: Dan Lynch, Janis Hedrich, Fran Goddu, Mary Van Dyk, John Edwards, Jason Gorrie

The first organizational meeting of a proposed new unit of the National Association of Parliamentarians was held on Wednesday, January 10, 2007, at 8 p.m. in Room 2132, Student Life Centre, University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Ontario. Janis Hedrich, PRP, called the meeting to order at 8:10 p.m. Without objection, Dan Lynch was elected temporary chairman, and John Edwards was elected temporary secretary. The secretary read the "Call of the Meeting".

Without objection, the current edition of Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised was approved as the parliamentary authority for the meeting.

Mrs. Hedrich explained the purpose of the meeting and the necessary procedures required to organize a new unit.

The following resolution presented by Mrs. Hedrich was adopted unanimously.

Resolved, That it is the wish of this meeting that a unit of the National Association of Parliamentarians be formed in the province of Ontario; and

Resolved, That application for a unit charter be sent to the National Association of Parliamentarians after adoption of unit bylaws.

It was moved by Fran Goddu, that the name of the new unit be the Grand River Unit of the National Association of Parliamentarians. This motion was adopted unanimously.

It was moved by Mr. Goddu that a bylaws committee be elected, and that it be instructed to prepare draft bylaws for the new unit and report at the next meeting. This motion was adopted unanimously.

The following persons were elected to a committee to draft bylaws for the proposed unit and to report at the second organizational meeting: Dan Lynch, Jason Gorrie.

Without objection, it was agreed that when the meeting adjourned, that it would adjourn to meet at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feburary 7, 2007 at a place on or near the campus of the University of Waterloo, to be determined by the call of the chair.

Mr. Goddu moved, and after admenment adopted that the bylaws committee be authorized to provide reproduced copies of the completed draft of the bylaws for distribution to all members of the Ontario Association of Parliamentarians [OAP].

The assembly then proceeded into an informal discussion about the aims and structures of the new unit.

On a motion by Mrs. Hedrich, the meeting adjourned at 9:10 p.m.
